Patellar tendinopathy massage therapy TorontoPatellar Tendinopathy & Kneecap Bursitis
Three different structures can cause a similar presentation just below the kneecap: the patellar tendon (jumper's knee), the infrapatellar bursa (below the kneecap), or the prepatellar bursa (in front of the kneecap). I can help with all three.
Not a diagnosis — for more information, contact me or another trusted healthcare provider.
Pain and tenderness just below the kneecap.
The first step is figuring out which structure is actually involved. For tendon issues, I adjust loading, look at bracing, relax the muscles pulling on the tendon, and add knee and hip strengthening. For bursitis, compression bandages, contrast therapy and gentle manual therapy mobilize the surrounding tissue, alongside treating the muscles above the knee that tend to compensate.
What I Focus On
- Structure Assessment
- Loading Adjustments
- Compression & Contrast
- Strengthening
Typical course: 2–8 weeks; regular appointments early, spacing out over time.
See your doctor first
A bursa that's red, hot, or comes with fever may be infected — that needs a doctor promptly, not massage.
