Hip replacement rehab massage therapy TorontoPost-Surgical Hip Rehab
Rehab after hip replacement, labral repair and similar surgeries.
Not a diagnosis — for more information, contact me or another trusted healthcare provider.
Early on, the goal is keeping you comfortable, happy and healthy through initial healing. From there, we recover range of motion, strength and stability through massage, manual therapy, strengthening and home-care stretching, and work back toward reintroducing the activities you love. After a hip replacement, surgeons often set movement precautions — limits on bending, crossing legs, or turning the leg inward — and treatment positioning always follows whatever your surgeon has set.
Typical course: Hip replacement: 3–6 months. Labral repair: 4–6 months.
Before we start hands-on treatment
After any surgery, I need your surgeon's okay before we start hands-on treatment. If you have questions about your specific case in the meantime, email me at oliverbeermt@gmail.com — I'm happy to answer them. We'll begin once you've been cleared.
Get emergency care if…
Calf pain, swelling or warmth, or sudden shortness of breath after surgery or an injury can mean a blood clot. Get emergency care right away.
Rehab is emotional as well as physical. The biggest thing I see get in the way of recovery isn't the exercises — it's people closing themselves off and retreating from friends, family and community while they heal. We're deeply social creatures, and isolation hurts both mental and physical health. Lean on the people around you, practically and socially, while you're getting through this.
The way we feel does so much for the way we heal. We heal better when we're around friends and family.
