Remedial exercise therapy TorontoRemedial Exercise & Rehab Exercises
Remedial exercises are stretches, movements and muscle-building exercises that help your body develop strength, mobility, proprioception, and the muscle-engagement patterns that let you manage and stabilize through daily motions and the specific demands of sport. They're incredibly important to a rehab plan, and they provide the backbone for long-term recovery and progressive self-care independent of your health practitioners — a great tool for taking your recovery into your own hands, and a stable foundation for managing injuries or chronic pain that's limiting you right now.
Not a diagnosis — for more information, contact me or another trusted healthcare provider.
When I'm designing a rehab plan, I keep the home exercise list as short as I can, so it's easier to stay consistent and you don't fall into the avoidant trap of not looking at a three-page sheet of rehab exercises. I keep exercises specific and effective to you and your specific case — often that's a self-massage or self-release skill, paired with strengthening for whatever's letting an area get overloaded in the first place. Back strengthening is a good example: when the back is stronger, it's counterintuitively less tight.
At the end of a treatment, I'll often have you record yourself on your own phone walking back through the exercise I've just shown you, so you leave with your own video rather than something you're supposed to remember. If you lift or train, I can also fold in coaching on bracing, engagement and biomechanics — about ten years around competitive lifting spaces informs that side of things.
