Shoulder surgery rehab massage therapy TorontoPost-Surgical Shoulder Rehab
Rehab after rotator cuff repair, labral repair, or shoulder replacement.
Not a diagnosis — for more information, contact me or another trusted healthcare provider.
I've worked on many shoulder reconstruction cases, with moderate success in some and great success in others — outcomes vary widely because of the joint's complexity and huge normal mobility. I can't make promises for a shoulder, but massage is a great tool for managing discomfort and building mobility, and with my exercise and sports-science background, I'm confident prescribing home care and rehab exercise that improves function. In complex cases I prefer to work as a team, and welcome open communication with your physiotherapist, physiatrist or surgeon.
Typical course: Rotator cuff repair: 6–12 months total rehab. Labral repair: 4–6 months. Shoulder replacement: 3–6 months.
Before we start hands-on treatment
After any surgery, I need your surgeon's okay before we start hands-on treatment. If you have questions about your specific case in the meantime, email me at oliverbeermt@gmail.com — I'm happy to answer them. We'll begin once you've been cleared.
Get emergency care if…
Calf pain, swelling or warmth, or sudden shortness of breath after surgery or an injury can mean a blood clot. Get emergency care right away.
Rehab is emotional as well as physical. The biggest thing I see get in the way of recovery isn't the exercises — it's people closing themselves off and retreating from friends, family and community while they heal. We're deeply social creatures, and isolation hurts both mental and physical health. Lean on the people around you, practically and socially, while you're getting through this.
The way we feel does so much for the way we heal. We heal better when we're around friends and family.
